Summary

Prepare yourself for the future. In the 26th century human civilisation has mastered space travel and has the ability to visit far off worlds. Assume the life of Jack Logan, a mercenary space pilot, in Tachyon: The Fringe as you try to amass a fortune and explore the galaxy. It’s up to you what missions you choose to accept as you’re given total control over your destiny.

On the edge of civilised space lie the six regions of the fringe. This is a rough and deadly area to inhabit and is full of money and beauty. Star pilots come here to seek fame and adventure. Admittedly, there are all kinds of social and political problems but there is no trouble that your lasers won’t solve.

Jumpgates have been created to allow ships to travel great distances in seconds. By catching the waves from a Ripstar singularity you can catch a ride on faster than light particles. These jumpgates will come in very handy when completing your missions.

Tachyon is a very deep and complicated game. It takes time to learn all of the controls and develop a understanding of which ships are best matched to certain missions. With perseverance the technical complexity is appreciated and is necessary for the amount of freedom allowed in the game. Decisions that you make have knock on effects and you have control over the story.

With a multi-player mode that accommodates over 100 pilots simultaneously, Tachyon: The Fringe is a beautiful playing experience.
