Summary

One of the latest crazes (and also one of the strangest creations) in the cartoon world is SpongeBob SquarePants, the square-shaped sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea with his pet snail, Gary. Whatever the guys at Nickelodeon were on when they thought this one up is anyone's guess. Well, being a popular cartoon character and all that, it was fairly inevitable that he'd end up starring in a range of games. This latest release, courtesy of the Game Boy Advance, is entitled Revenge of the Flying Dutchman.

While cruising through Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob discovers a magic bottle and unleashes the Flying Dutchman. The Dutchman is furious that he was disturbed, and places a curse on SpongeBob. To lift the curse, SpongeBob must now seek out the ten lost treasures that have been scattered throughout Bikini Bottom.

In the game you play as the heroic bathroom accessory through a 2D platform adventure that centres on collecting the aforementioned lost treasures. Along the way you get to meet and interact with all of the favourite characters from the television show, including Sandy Cheeks, Patrick Star and Squidward. There are 11 exciting levels in all, set across five expansive chapters, including the likes of Bikini Bottom, Jellyfish Fields, Outer Town, Goo Lagoon and Dutchman's Underworld.

Scattered abundantly throughout each level you will find gold coins, which can be collected and subsequently used to unlock multiple mini games. Also, as a bit of a bonus, if you have a copy of the GameCube version, you can link up the two consoles to unlock some exclusive game elements.

Not the most original game of all time, Revenge of the Flying Dutchman is an entertaining romp nonetheless, and will also be a big hit with fans of the series.
