Summary

If Forza is a perfectly-formed truffle, there to be fussed over and attended to with great focus, then Forza Horizon is a great big cake that you dive into to enjoy with abandon. It's big, boistiourous and straight-up good fun.

Developer Playground ought to know about this sort of thing. It has only ever worked on the Forza Horizon titles, but among its staff are devs who have worked on the likes of Project Gotham Racing, Driver, MotoGP, Formula One, Burnout and Need for Speed.

This time out players can explore the vast and varied landscape of Australia, roaring around the rocky canyons of the outback, the lush rainforests and the beautiful beaches and gleaming skyscrapers of the gold coast. There are more than 350 cars to do it in, with ForzaVista offering detail including full cockpit views, working lights and wipers and brand new vehicle types.

There are a lot of customisation options, ranging from your character and car, through to the chance to hire your friends' drivatars right through to the chance to modify (and share) events themselves. Bringing your friends further into the game, four player online co-op offers players the chance to take on campaigns together for the first time.

But, really, it's all about getting out into a spectacular environment and going really, really fast!
