Summary

Torment: Tides of Numenera will feel to a lot of its players like it's been a long time coming. As the spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment, however, the gaming community is quietly hoping it will be worth the wait.

You awake suddenly in a body you didn't used to be in control of. It's just been abandoned by the Changing God. He's been jumping from body to body for aeons, witnessing everything he can and staying one step ahead of an ancient enemy known as The Sorrow. Normally it kills a body on its way out, but not yours. This thrusts you deep into a battle and a world that you don't understand, and getting to grips with it will be your journey.

As well as its predecessor, the game takes its name from the game's morality system, known as The Tides. It's not about wrong/right or chaos/order so much as it is about whether your legacy will be one of passion, creation and art, or whether it will be about reason and knowledge. Will you serve the greater good, or will you simply gather power and fame. The Tides form a kind of psychic web that you draw energy from and will affect your ability to manipulate those around you and navigate the game world without getting into big fights, if you so choose.

This reflects the overall narrative bent of Tides of Numenera, which is more about storytelling than it is combat. The game will unfold based on the decisions you make, revealing a rich world and a journey driven by the game's philosophical underpinnings.
