Summary
The problem with exploring the reaches of interstellar space is that there are an awful lot of ways for you to die out there. As you start Symmetry things haven't quite come to that, but death is a very near presence. You've crash landed on the surface of an alien world, and it's on you to get your crew home in this survival management game.
You'll need to manage your resources, but more importantly you'll need to manage the health and wellbeing of your people, who are under massive strain and working well outside their usual skillsets. One wrong decision, and they're dead. Run out of time, they're dead. It's a desolate, hostile world out there and escaping it will be tough. Developer Sleepless Clinic promises a deep, complex narrative with some hard moral choices to be made and creeping supernatural elements on a planet where all is not as it seems. Comments like 'oops, I ate a helpless scientist' are worryingly common among those who've played the game...
Symmetry sports a retro futuristic aesthetic, with graphics reminiscent of the likes of The Long Dark or The Final Station. Cutaway shots of the inside of your base framed by darkness drive home how isolated you are.
Imagine The Martian spliced with the big sci-fi of the 1950s and 1960s and you'll get a pretty good sense of the peril waiting for you in Symmetry.
