New Limited Edition SP Design - For Japan Only...Again!

The Naruto GBA bares its form.

Posted by Staff
Nintendo is once again exercising its indecisive design strategy by offering yet another GBA SP makeover to its adoring Japanese fanbase. Joining the likes of the mini-NES, Famicom and Donkey Kong special edition SP's is the new Naruto-themed GBA SP. This limited model coincides with the Japanese release of the latest Naruto RPG on GBA, giving fans of the anime-based series a chance to make a public display of their devotion, wielding satsuma coloured consoles as proof.

The collectable SP bears the symbol of Kohona (a Naruto-related squiggle) on its flip-down lid, and the wow factor has been boosted via a re-spray in a vibrant shade of orange. The deep azure buttons are juxtaposed upon the face, lending the colour scheme a delicious level of contrast. Just look at it, it’s wondrously beautiful, is it not?

As usual, this won’t be available outside of Japan, so if you love Naruto, orange and/or blue, you’d better get on the phone to your local importer.

You know I bet theres a big GBASP fan out there who collects all of these different hues of GBA. One for every day of the week.

Now how many Naruto games is that on GBA altogether? Think it's about four now, two rpgs and two beat em ups (I could be wrong so feel free to correct me) or something. It's a good the we have import shops because we miss out on so much stuff still.

Follow the link for more Naruto series info.

Once again, Nintendo put a sticker on a product and market it as something new. The sad thing is, every Nintendo fanboy will cream their pants at this.

As opposed to any other company, who would never, ever do anything to market their tired old products in such a cynical way.

I don't really find anything wrong with this color/design changing strategy. It brings in a lot more revenue for Nintendo, and it just provides more options for us, the consumers. I just got the NES SP, and for me, that's the best Nintendo product I've bought in years.

Nah, most likely they'd all be locked up in an anti-static, anti-dust vault ^_^

I can't say I exactly approve of Nintendo's strategies of 'colour of the month' when it comes to the GBA, but hey, I already have mine and it's not like I'll need to specifically need to buy the new colours to get it to run. And if somebody out there wants to collect every single special edition GBA, well, good for them. nd good for nintendo too ^_^

Though I do wonder if Nintendo will be pulling this stunt again when it comes to the DS and GBA2.

They've been pulling it since the Gameboy Color and N64, so of course they'll do it for the next Gameboys.

We expect this from Nintendo anyway, but it's not a bad thing to have another option. You'd be surprised how a colour change can get people buying, just ask the motor industry they know all about it.

Everyone will always have a favorite colour, number etc so if it works and it ain't broken don't fix it. This is something MS and Sony have now taken on to their systems (another Nintendo idea) because not everyone likes black, and why should consoles only come in specific colours, this is the 21 century after all not the 1920s.

When GBASPs get cheaper I'll look at hunting this one and others down for my collection.

Yeah I don't see the problem with this. Makes me wish I had waited a bit longer so I could of got the colour I wanted. Still the Silver one looks great to me. I'm going to wait until the DS comes out. Then when all the shops cut the price of the GBASP by half I'll pick up the best colour one thats available. Most likely the NES version.

This a great thing for people who don't already have one because it give them the extra reason to get one and show off too their GBASP owning mates and turn them green with envy.

Nintendo made the colour option standard fair with consoles. I expect Sony will follow suit withthe PSP when it's out like PS2 before it. Doesn't really matter who thought of it first though, it's a good idea many can use.
From iPods, to cars, to consoles.

A GBASP real cheap would make a great stocking filler this xmas, colours to suit just put the icing on the cake. It's nice to have something rare so I might have to bag this Ninja style GBA (yes that's right, Naruto is a ninja and the series is very cool). Perhaps bag some of the PS2/GC Naruto games to which I've heard are good.

Perhaps Spong should consider rare gems like this for prizes, not the usual mainstream stuff. I know I'd love one.
