Enough With The Consoles!

too much hardware = too many bases to cover for developers. diversity is good for consumers but itoo much makes it impossible for developers to invest time on all of them so you get some good games on one platform and some on others

I think three consoles is a good mix. There are enough to spur competition between the platform holders and not too many that the gamer gets confused or pulled in all directions at once.

Three good consoles, like we have now, is a gamer's dream. As long as the consoles last for about five years each, there is time to collect all three and experience the best exclusive games each has to offer.

Multi-platform titles are made all the more easy these days by the middleware providers, who effectively create a single platform for those that don't want to customise their game for each platform. Giving us decent, if not exceptional, games across the board.
