Summary

In the sequel to NBA Street, cleverly titled NBA Street Volume 2, you’ll get a second chance to face off against some of the game’s greatest legends. In what is essentially an over-the-top sports game, like most other EA BIG titles, you’ll have to employ unbelievable skills and sound strategies to defeat the likes of Wilt Chamberlain and Shaquille O'Neal. Luckily, you’ll be armed with an all-new arsenal of dunks, dribbles and special moves, all at your disposal to help you claim the champion’s prize. “Off the Heezay” and “Pass Out” are just a couple of them.

Visually, NBA Street 2, although not outstanding, is still a fine looking game. Technically there are few flaws, glitches are near non-existent and the game world is more believable now than it ever has been.

The most significant game mode the Xbox version has to offer is undeniably the multi-player mode. Accommodating up to four players, this option offers potentially offers endless hours of play. You can play defensively or offensively, and there’s a new directional passing system that makes the game extremely easy to get to grips with. It does however, make human competition extremely challenging, but given time, you may even learn how to predict your opponent’s behaviour – it’s a skill that’s definitely worth learning.

And in true EA BIG fashion, NBA Street 2 includes a new “Gamebreaker” meter that, when full, enables its players to pull off some truly incredible moves. Players can also make their own history in the new create-a-player mode and earn new moves to show off new street styles.

A worthy update to a highly playable original.
