Summary

Backbreaker is another entry into the American Football video game pantheon. But this one doesn't come from EA or from 2K Sports. It's a brand newcomer from 505 Games and developer Natural Motion. Using the Euphoria engine.

While this means that the game doesn't have EA's officially licensed players, it does come with gameplay. This is based on several modes, which include:

Training Camp - Aimed at getting the new player to the game used to the controls it's also there to familiarise the player new to the sport with "offense", "defense", and "special teams".

Exhibition - as with most sports games this is a one-off game between one or two players (split screen). You can use either game-ready or custom teams.

Leagues - Season play and Road to Backbreaker (RTBB) are included here. The first gives the player full choice of the number of teams, names of conferences and more. It can be played in single or multiplayer. The RTBB mode is single-player and can be compared to Pro Evolution Soccer's Master League inasmuch as a single-player takes a team from the lowest leagues to top-league glory (or failure of course).

Tackle Alley - It's you versus a load of defensive tacklers trying to stop you getting to the endzone. Show skill and get past players to win points.

Online Play - As the name suggests... it's online play for Exhibition and Tackle Alley modes.

My Teams - use in-game creation tools to create your own custom teams.

Locker Room - This is both the options area and a place to watch development videos.

All in all, a packed American Football outing that began life on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
