Summary

Styx is a grotty little beast. A centuries-old goblin, he scampers through the shadows viciously dispatching his enemies any which way he can, more often than not using his own weaponised bodily fluids. He's not someone (or something) you want to get on the wrong side of. In other words, not your usual videogame hero, even as the murky stealth genre goes.

Shards of Darkness is his second outing, and developer Cyanide and publisher Focus Home Interactive are promising a deeper, more complex world to explore this time out.

After the fall of Akenash tower Styx has been forced out of hiding to get into Korrangar, the city of the Dark Elves. It's supposed to be impregnable, but a diplomatic summit gives Styx to get inside unseen. Once in, however, he realises that all is not as it seems...

As previously noted, Styx is a horrible little protagonist. His abilities involve vomit so potent that he can use it to poison enemies and coughing up balls of mucous that turn into little Styx clones you can wreak havoc with. This sense of mucky playfulness pervades the game, and the level design encourages players to have a little fun.

Styx might not be your typical hero, but if you fancy a little dark fantasy in your gaming diet he'll scratch the itch. Just make sure you wash afterwards.
