Disappointing first impression. Maybe it will grow on me, but I'm not thrilled. It has always been a bit like stamp collecting, playing Gran Turismo. This game has all the same flaws of the previous games, I think. The graphics are barely any better than GT3 on the PS2.
I'm so disappointed, I do love a good racer, however GT5 is just so... detached, for lack of a better word. I keep comparing to Forza 3 which i do love playing and GT5 has got its advantages in that it has way more variety of cars (stuff like the MG TF and original mini), but to me thats where it ends. the feel is really sloppy and for a game that is about graphics its just terrible in some aspects (im not saying totally bad, just terrible for a game that is meant to have top graphics). The game was hyped up way too much and i cant see why it was delayed so much: its just GT4 slightly brighter with more cars and tracks but less fun and accuracy: speaking of which where is it? not all the cars look crisp, you cant have cabin views in all the cars (unlike forza) cars that you know wouldn't keep up in real life to the one your driving seem to be always on your tale, the whole game is a sham and i am dissapointed. They spent more time on the intro video then on the game; its soul-less, un polished and poor gameplay. Its just about playable in my opinion but im not going to pick it up all the time, its a game that you play if you have nothing better to do

I agree entirely. The thing is, I cannot imagine a time when I won't have something better to do. There's Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Burnout Paradise and even Motorstorm. Al of which are incredibly more fun than GT. I loved the stamp collecting aspects of GT3.... but I'm not prepared to go through the pulling teeth part to get to it.
As for slower cars burning you off, the argument, I guess, will be that they have modded their vehicles. Still sucks though.
I was afraid of this... but should have seen it coming. I bought the GT5 prologue/demo a while back and had the 2h of: "OMG look at that graphics!", followed by: "The driving is ok..." and lastly: "this is getting tedious and boring". Dropped it after 1 day and never returned. Still.. I was hoping GT5 would somehow grow into an amazing game, especially connsidering the development time put into it. Guess I was mistaken. Too little, too late. 1st FF13, now this. I'm never buying a hyped sequel for the PS3 again. Thank God I didn't preorder this.
I tell ya what forza is, a big steaming pile of s**t compared to this game. Forza 3 dropped to ball as far as a simulation racer stand point.( Which Turn 10 call it). PD tried to create a Sim, not a kids game, ie Burnout,NFS, forza etc. And before you start defending Forza, try playing rfactor, GTR2, GTR EVO, these are Sim games, PD tried to walk the thin line between keeping the kids happy and the hardcore Sim fans happy, and did a good job. So for all you kiddie style gamers out there with your controllers, not G25 up, keep your little snide remarks to yourself and let the real community of online Sim racers tell you whether the game is any good.
This game got boring after the first few hours, and I just turned it off; How on earth can you drive that VW Van on the Top Gear track and win? I tried over 10 times and got no where, Plain outright boring and I'd rather play forza 3.
The head tracking doesn't turn on??? with a PS Eye connected and the settings enabled.
3D Just looks awful, and the graphics overall look quite bad; It even has screen tearing which occurs around 5 times a lap.
I wasted my time, waiting 5 years for the biggest let down for PS3.
PS3 is dead, no good games for several months; Black Ops is broken, GT5 is lame and still no Cross game chat...
If you think the camper van bit was bad I hope you dont ever get to try the second Top Gear challenge. With a Lotus Elise. It's awful. If that can really handled like that noone would buy it.@Dub
@Tone When was Gran Turismo 5 meant to have top graphics. PD never said they were aiming for that, just everyone assumes they must because they're so close. The fact that you said the gameplay is poor is just rediculous when it is one of the best aspects of the game and has recieved high praise.
I'm more of an Outrun/Burnout fan so this is the other end of the spectrum for me.
