Not surprised people are moving online. With Ebay and play.com, playasia etc, it's just easier.

If I'm on the high street it would be Gamestation though.

This is true. But it's costing you in school fees and the loss of free healthcare.

Play, CD-WOW and other companies exploit a loophole in UK law that allows packages below a certain value into the country without VAT being due. This amount used to be £18, it went up to £25 in the recent budget. This exemption was put in place because it is neither practical nor cost effective to impose tax on these packages, and there used to be relatively few of them. These companies ceased on the loophole, and systematically exploited it to enable them to offer low prices. But the cost to the country in VAT is huge, and that costs in hospitals not built, free education not given, other taxes increased.

And because the amount went up to £25 recently, you can expect those £17.99 games to go up to £24.99 soon too.
