Established in 1991 in Raleigh, NC, USA, Epic Games is a developer currently most notable as a creator of Fortnite and the Unreal game engine. In its early years, however, the company established itself with shareware games including Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jackrabbit and Epic Pinball.
However its place in gaming history, and as a producer of premium quality shooters, was established with the 1998 release of Unreal and Unreal Tournament - the million selling shooters that gave name to Unreal Engine, used today by developers worldwide.
More recent highlights are Gears of War, Shadow Complex and the Infinity Blade series of games and, of course, Fortnite. The company is now headquartered in Cary, North Carolina.

Epic Games's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1994 title, "Jazz Jackrabbit" (PC).
The company has been involved titles released on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Power Mac, Xbox and Dreamcast. Of these, "Gears of War" (Xbox 360), "Gears of War 2" (Xbox 360), "Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict" (Xbox), "Unreal Tournament 3" (PS3), "Gears of War 3" (Xbox 360) has been a best selling title.
The company's most recent involvement was on the 2018 release "Fortnite" (Switch).
