Heavy Iron Studios was founded in 1999 as a wholly-owned internal studio of publisher THQ.

The studio focussed on kid-friendly titles for the first decade, producing many of the titles spinning out THQ's vast array of licences brands including Disney Pixar titles such as The Incredibles, Wall-E and UP, and also Spongebob Squarepants and Scooby Doo titles.

In 2009 the studio broke away from THQ to become an independent company, and in 2011 the company released it's first non-kid targetted titles, UFC Personal Trainer for Wii, PS3 Move and Xbox 360 Kinect.

Software Highlights from Credited Titles

Heavy Iron's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 2001 title, "Evil Dead: Hail to the King" (PC).

The company has been involved titles released on the PC, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, DS/DSi, PS2, PSP, Xbox, GameCube, GBA, PlayStation, Dreamcast and Mac. Of these, "WALL•E" (PS2), "The Incredibles" (GameCube), "SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom" (Xbox), "WALL•E" (PSP), "Evil Dead: Hail to the King" (Dreamcast) has been a best selling title.

The company's most recent involvement was on the 2011 release "UFC Personal Trainer" (Wii).
