Summary

It would be fair to say that Capcom maintain a policy of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” As the king of sequels, they appear to release a new Streetfighter version every week. This time up its Streetfighter Alpha 3. This is the culmination of the series, including fighting styles taken from Super Turbo, Alpha 1 and Alpha 2.

The main innovation is the European Fighting Arena Capcom have constructed. Taking full advantage of the Dreamcast’s on-line capabilities, you can now enter the European Streetfighter League and aim to become the champion of Europe.

The game-play is split between three fighting styles. X-ism: the fighting style from Super Turbo which includes one Super Combo. A-ism, the standard Alpha style with multiple Super Combos, and V-ism, an advanced fighting style with custom combos.

Everything in the game is fully customisable from the speed of play to the manor in which your character falls. Capcom have included more characters from Final Fight, making up a complete cast list of thirty. There are more hidden characters and hidden fighting modes. If you haven’t already played Streetfighter to death, or have but don’t care, Streetfighter Alpha 3 is the one for you.
