Summary

In 1985, Hudson Soft created a little puzzle game called Bomberman. Soon after, the game-playing qualities of this classic title became apparent when two or more controllers were plugged into the console, and the revolution of multi-play began. Right up to the times of Megadrive, SNES, and other consoles, Bomberman continued to be a success across the globe. New for PlayStation, Bomberman makes its return for the 32-bit platforms of late.

Thanks to Sony’s Multi Tap adapter, Bomberman’s multi-player capabilities can be realised to the fullest, provided you have controllers to spare. Gameplay is simple. You must wonder around a block-based area, planting bombs in an attempt to obliterate the opposition, be it human or computer controlled. A number of power ups are available along the way, making gameplay much more interesting, and randomising the outcome of the game a little. You need not be an expert to win at this game. There are 50 single player levels to bomb your way through, but the customisable battle mode allows players to make the most out of Bomberman, and aren’t restricted to every playing element of the game.

Even to this day, Bomberman remains a classic creation, and we can only hope for further enhanced versions on the future platforms of PlayStation 2, GameCube and XBox.
