Summary

Deep Fighter for the Dreamcast is an underwater, action packed adventure, combat game. In this title you join the elite ranks of the specialist unit, Defence Force. Taking orders from the general it is your job to protect the city and put a stop all enemy invasion. If you want your underwater existence to continue, it is imperative that you are successful in your missions. If you fail on any missions it will have a direct impact in the later stages of the game as you miss out on new ships and upgrades.

Initially, the pace of Deep Fighter is slow because the game wants you to get used to the control method and how to use your ships functions and weapons. Your first few missions involve recovering minerals and helping sort out radiation that is affecting a fish-breeding program. Soon, the Shadowkin will attack and you better be prepared.

Deep Fighter is a massive game, it will take a long time to thoroughly complete it. It comes on two disks and boasts up to 50 missions spread over six environments. There is a total of eight different ships to pilot and each ship can be equipped with eleven different tools.

The graphics in Deep Fighter are excellent in places and really convey the sensation of being underwater. The audio could be better but it doesn’t really detract from the game. Overall, an intelligent game with top-notch mission based action.
