Summary

One of the most original fighting games to grace the PlayStation was Bloody Roar. This 3D beat-em-up featured outlandish character transformations and intense gameplay. You will have never seen how good the series can look until you witness the 128-bit incarnation on the PlayStation 2.

This is this most ambitious and impressive fighting game created so far on Sony’s next generation console. Twelve ‘normal’ characters battle each other to the death in an attempt to determine the strongest contestant. Each character has a beast alter-ego that they can morph into at any point of the fight, provided there is enough beast meter. While in beast mode, new powerful moves and supers can be performed.

Bloody Roar 3 has a flexible combo engine that allows chains (linking together normal attacks) that are cancellable into special and super moves. You can even juggle your opponent as they fall to the ground or bounce off the walls. Many spectacular and difficult combos can be mastered if you are prepared to put the practice in.

Bloody Roar 3 still retains the same basic play mechanics as the first two games, but improves on the formula with visually appealing, fully-interactive environments and new super beast power-ups. Combatants can throw one another through walls or other structures and then follow them through to finish them off. Another new feature is the Super Beast mode, where the damage inflicted by your alter-ego is doubled. Bloody Roar 3 will make a welcome addition to your fighting game collection.
