Summary

If ever there was a game that was ripe for a sequel, that game was Resident Evil. Already a massive success on the PlayStation, Resident Evil 2 receives a grand-looking overhaul for the Dreamcast. Critically acclaimed, and rightly so, on Sony's seemingly all-conquering console, Resident Evil 2 is a visual feast, showing off the Dreamcast's awesome graphic powers.

Despite the identical plot-line to the PSX version, Resident Evil 2 will provide all the
gory glory and genuinely scary shocks over again. If you were unfortunate to miss out on the PlayStation version, allow me to bring you up to speed.

In the original Resident Evil, a viral outbreak at a mansion laboratory resulted in the
infection of the population of nearby Raccoon City. And now it seems that the Umbrella Corporation have unwittingly unleashed a new virus. However, these poor town-folk didn't merely suffer from coldsores or a run-of-the-mill bout of influenza, oh no. More like flesh-eating zombies! Try getting antibiotics for that!

Your challenge is to blast your way through the decimated city, killing almost everything that moves, whilst solving puzzles and disarming booby traps, in order to prolong your ordeal. The trick is to stay alive – the Resident Evil titles invented the ‘survival horror’ genre after all. One bad decision and it could well be over for you. Just make sure you pick up as many typewriter ribbons as possible as you go through the game – this is the only way you can save your progress.

So turn off the lights (like I did), get on the edge of your seat (like I did), and prepare to jump out of your skin (like I did, several times). Not for the faint-hearted, even the cover of Resident Evil 2 gave me the willies.
