Summary

Do you remember when you were a kid? Life was simple and fun, you didn’t have to worry about everyday hassles and the world was an adventure. Introducing Game & Watch Gallery 3 for the Gameboy Color, by Nintendo. Retro gaming has a strong following due to the simplicity and fun of older titles. In the days when programmers had to make the most of the hardware available, games relied on addiction to sell. So not only is Game & Watch Gallery 3 a loving stroll down memory lane, it can be picked up and played by anyone. If these games were just a compilation of the original titles you would have every right to be happy. As it stands, Nintendo has revamped the graphics and gameplay and included modern versions of the five titles on offer. In addition to this, there is now a two-player option. Now there is no reason to fear long journeys on public transport, except for the inevitable missing of your stop.
This anthology of classic Nintendo games includes: Egg, Greenhouse, Turtle Bridge, Mario Bros. and finally Donkey Kong Jr.. In Egg, your character is locked centrally in the middle of the screen. Rolling in from four different directions are eggs. Just when you think you’ve got the hang of it, the action starts to speed up and things become increasing tricky. Greenhouse involves spraying bugs with insecticide before they make it your prise plants. The small drawback is that your greenhouse stretches over two screens. Turtle Bridge is simply a case of making it from one side of the river the other. The turtles have a habit of disappearing from time to time, which makes things harder. Mario Bros. deserves mention because not only is it a superb game but you have to control two characters at the same time. Finally, in Donkey Kong Jr. it is your objective to rescue Donkey Kong from Mario’s cage. This means that you need to get the key to the lock without running into any enemies.
With plenty of sleepless nights to look forward to, you’ll be reassured to know Game & Watch Gallery 3 is a great big fun slice of videogame history.
