Summary

The Mechwarrior series originally made its debut in the 16-bit days of the SNES, and proved successful enough to spawn a number of sequels across a variety of platforms. Microsoft is continuing to push the series into the 21st century, mainly on PC, with the release of the next-generation title, Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance.

Requiring DirectX 8 software, Mechwarrior 4 is without a doubt one of the most advanced titles to date. Provided you have a reasonable graphics card to demonstrate the game’s performance capabilities, you will be pleased, to say the least, with what Microsoft have accomplished. Varying Mech 4’s settings considerably are a whole variety of global and lunar locations that span from arctic shores to water-starved deserts. The game’s training option comes recommended for learning the Mech’s controls, since some of the missions you will be attempting are very precise. Once ready to proceed you can begin a full-on campaign that may take a good chunk out of your social life, or for a quick blast, select one of the instant action missions. Some missions are very action-based, while others quite the opposite. A good balance of weapons and targeting equipment are present to accommodate the needs of every challenge within the game.

Taking control of a 40-feet tall machine that moves at 90 miles per hour is a lot of fun, and using these beasts to make your way through a plethora of challenging levels makes it all the more satisfying.
