Summary
3DO Studios, most commonly known for their Army Men games, also have a bit of a penchant for the role-playing genre. Famous for their Might and Magic games, the company is now pushing the series even further with Warriors of Might and Magic on PlayStation . But strangely, this game also incorporates many platforming elements, challenging the player to cross death-defying cliffs and solve puzzles.
You embark on an adventure to protect your well-being from those intent on your destruction, with the minor distraction of saving the world in the process. The PlayStation update features nine all-new worlds that unfold across 20 levels, in which an epic story is told. New to the series are thirty character classes, joining the existing bestiary of monsters and enemies. Also, there are dozens of weapons, armour and spells, that include the traditional swords and basic magic. What’s more, as the most advanced title in the series to date, Might and Magic now showcases more detailed environments and better character animation, now featuring choreography along with all-new special moves. In-game cinematics have also been improved, allowing for some seamless storytelling. Most importantly, 3DO has moved away from long-range combat, and is now leaning towards a close-range challenge, giving the game an “up close and personal” feel.
As a complete game, Might and Magic is by far the most accomplished in the series and takes character interaction to a new level. Featuring a compelling story line and an enormous challenge, Might and Magic shows all the typical signs of a great role-playing game with a bit of platforming thrown into the bargain.
