Summary

The release of Mario Kart from Nintendo back in 1993 proved to be such an overwhelming success, that developers across the globe took note and began producing their own versions of karting games. Shortly afterwards, any titles bearing similarities to Nintendo’s classic were dubbed Mario Kart clones. Woody Woodpecker Racing from Konami fits nicely under this category.

Wood Woodpecker Racing, although strictly classed as a karting game, does have a certain number of strategy and combat-based elements of play. You will not be able to rely on driving skill alone, since the AI opponents that await you will be as devious as can be, and you must outwit them to the finish line. Modes of play include quest, championship, single, and time trial. Your priority decision should be your choice of player. Each player will have some familiarity with the world of the Woodpecker, and each has their own unique method of handling. Once you have got to grips with your chosen champion, you must tackle some of the many tracks available. Tracks vary from on-road to off-road, forcing you to adapt to different handling systems.

Although not an original game, Woody Woodpecker Racing has many of the qualities of the Mario Kart classic, and that in itself is worth noting.
