Summary

Now here's a familiar tale, let's see if it rings any bells. An innocent young dinosaur and his pals are playing around when they happen upon an egg, seemingly abandoned in a cave. It's a Sharptooth egg and, fearful of the adult Sharptooths, the youngsters decide to return the egg to the safety of the Great Beyond. The friends carry the egg out of the Great Valley and drop it safely into a nest, just as an angry Sharptooth mother arrives with a roar. The young dinosaurs scatter in fright and lose each other in the Great Beyond. And this is where you come in, as you have to guide your chosen prehistoric pal back to the security of the Great Valley.

Sounds like Disney's Dinosaur, right? Wrong, this is Return to the Great Valley or The Land Before Time, it depends which angle you approach the package from.

You can play the part of Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky or Spike as you travel through strange new worlds, trying to find your way back home. Help is at hand throughout the levels with the vocal assistance of Petrie the Pteranodon, and there's plenty of game-play in The Land Before Time, as there are twenty levels to play through. Along the way, you will encounter all manner of puzzles and obstacles, but if you pay attention to what your flying friend Petrie has to say, and collect as many treestars (the game's unique power-ups) as you can, you just might be able to guide your character back to safety.

Return to the Great Valley is a cute enough title, though not in the same league as Disney's Dinosaur. It is, however, an ideal starter platformer for the less demanding youngster in your life.
