Summary

The flight simulator is a genre that is often considered to be less of a game and more of a chore by some people. Consisting of a vast number of controls, super-thick manuals and complex missions, these games often act as a deterrent for some folks. However, there are many that would jump to the defence of the flight sim. In particular, Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2000 and Combat Flight Simulator games have proved so successful that a Harrier Jump Jet expansion was developed.

Often regarded as the military’s most remarkable aircraft, the Harrier plane is the main focus of this expansion. Seventeen Harrier variants have been included here, including the P.1127 Prototype and the RN FA.2 Sea Harrier. Each craft has been modelled with unprecedented accuracy, giving the flight models some amazing authenticity. Even engine sounds have been considered. But most importantly, the planes handle accurately to the extent that a significantly different flight can be experienced with all 17 variants.

Supporting the original Microsoft games, Harrier Jump Jet features an all-new Falklands campaign, in which you can participate in twenty combat-based missions that recreate those tense days of conflict for both sides in the South Atlantic. Missions are based on actual events from the war, right down to the time of day. Although played in flight, its shocking just how different each game can be when playing at different times of the day.

As far as flight simulators are concerned, they don’t come more accomplished than this. It looks amazing, it plays superbly, and it’s astonishingly accurate. What more could you ask?
