Summary

The World War simulator has become popular in recent years, and the release of several games based upon the epic war has proved worthwhile for most. Ubi Soft take a deep breath and dive in the deep end with the release of Silent Hunter 2, one of only a few submarine simulations in existence.

Silent Hunter 2 is set in the hazardous waters of the Atlantic. The campaigns are historic, naturally, but each is oozing with enthralling plots and fantastic gameplay.

The game has been rendered in full 3D, and there are some lovely lighting effects. But not all featured missions take place entirely underwater. Some sea-level environments are stunning, complete with fully rendered authentic ships, submarines and aircraft.

Getting down to the game, your challenge is simply to battle loads of enemy craft, including the German U-boat forces. Of course, progression can only be made if the battle is fought successfully, and that is where the challenge lies. Those of you finding the challenge a little too overwhelming can always adjust the difficulty setting to suit your skill level.

If single player games weren’t already challenging enough, there is also a multi-player option available over a network or the Internet. If this mode of play is taken advantage of (and it really should) the longevity of Silent Hunter 2 is increased immeasurably.

Silent Hunter 2 is a highly polished game with many improved features over the original. As a result, the game is much more playable and addictive.
