Summary

Unfortunately there aren’t too many games designed especially for girls. Barbie Explorer could be first in a flux of a new wave of video games. Try to imagine the ultra-successful Tomb Raider but aimed at young girls with Barbie starring as the heroine. Move over Indiana Jones and Lara, Barbie is here.

The storyline involves Barbie working as a reporter for the local newspaper when a fantastic opportunity presents itself. As Barbie is interviewing Professor Dudley at the local museum, she learns of an ancient mirror with magical properties that is missing four pieces. Professor Dudley has a map highlighting the location of the pieces, so Barbie decides to become an adventurer and reassemble the mirror.

To get you used to controlling Barbie there is a special virtual reality room that lets you get familiar with the controls. In this room, players can learn how to jump, push, pull, dive, roll and climb. Skills essential for tackling the levels in this game.

The levels are based around Africa, Tibet, and Eygpt, and the game delivers some beautiful visuals. In each level there are number of power-ups and items that can be collected to improve Barbie’s abilities. Hiking boots give traction on slippery surfaces, invulnerability prevents her from taking damage and the magic torch will reveal hidden areas.

Barbie Explorer is perfect for its target audience. It’s easy, fun, and features every little girl's favourite doll, Barbie.
