Summary

Crazy Pinball is a more than adequate pinball simulation for the PC. It offers two benefits to fans of the metal balls. Firstly, it is budget priced from the start so it won’t be too hard on your pockets. Secondly, Crazy Pinball gives you a great game of pinball. What more could you want?

The two most important factors that a pinball simulation has to get right are the ball physics and the table layout. The table in Crazy Pinball is Martian themed and is nicely animated. The table is far from static, Alien heads expand when they suck up the ball and lasers fire all over the playing field. The difficulty setting is balanced, and you can avoid losing your ball 95 percent of the time. If the ball is heading straight towards the centre of your flippers, you can nudge the table early and avoid certain death.

The ball movement is also convincing and that adds to the realism of the simulation. When you have activated a multi-ball, the way the balls cannon off each other when they collide is spot on. The balls also seem to have weight behind them, if you don’t hit them right, they simply won’t have the momentum to make it around the loops.

To make the table more interesting, a LCD style display resides at the top of the screen. You can play sub-games on this display, like skill shots where you have to time your attacks with your flippers. The LCD readout also informs you of combos, like hitting the loop three times in a row within a set time limit.

Crazy Pinball is not the best Pinball game on the market, but it is far from the worst. When you take into account its cheap retail price, it becomes far more appealing. Not a bad way to spend a few hours at all.
