Summary

Arctic Thunder is the first PS2 snowmobile game to feature weapons and hand to hand combat. A somewhat unusual combination but if you want to win, sometimes the best way is under-handed. Coming from arcade kings Midaway, Arctic Thunder will change the way you play snowmobile games.

Race through twelve exciting courses set over a variety of unique locations. The action takes place through a blizzard in DC, a lost Himalayan city, Chernobyl meltdown, the Swiss Alps, a haunted forest, and finally an Alaskan pipeline. If players are successful, they can unlock a further six tracks including the lost city of Atlantis and a theme park.

The PS2 makes these environments come to life with detailed graphics and a smooth and consistent frame rate that never suffers from slowdown.

Arctic Thunder can be an amusing game at times: knocking your opponents off their snowmobile in mid-air just before the finish line, for example, is great fun. Power-ups can be picked up to improve your snowmobile with shields and repairs.

Your snowmobile can also be upgraded. In order to earn points that count towards upgrades, you must perform stunts while you are racing. This not only gives you the incentive to perform tricks where you can, but can also increases the speed of the game.

With six different modes, including a multi-player battle arena, impressive tricks, vehicle upgrades and weapons, Arctic Thunder shines as one of the best snowmobile games currently available. If you like your racing games, check it out.
