Summary

A re-packaged combination of Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics, Fallout Radioactive offers the full series of Interplay’s nuclear-based RTS/RPG crossover.

In a post-apocalyptic world, technical revival group the Brotherhood of Steel must begin a quest to restore the planet to its former prosperity through science and whatever means necessary. A powerful enemy must be defeated, long dormant technology must be awakened and tactical skirmish warfare must be undertaken in order to overcome the various hostile obstacles throughout the missions.

Players take control of up to six characters in the single player campaign, utilising armed vehicles and many varieties of weapons to assist in the battles against the enemy. Squads are assembled in advance from a pool of around 30 recruits before taking control of vehicles in combat statistic and skill-based development systems.

While essentially a real-time strategy game, Fallout does employ certain role-playing aspects into the gameplay mechanics. Typical role-playing features, such as hit points and random encounters are present and in full force. In each of the missions you will find yourself encountering formidable opponents, such as mutated humans and animals. Interestingly, turn-based encounters can turned on or off, a feature lacking in any existing role-playing game.

Fallout’s multi-player option is what makes the game shine. Available over a LAN, five popular game modes have been employed, including Death Match and Capture the Flag.

Considering that this is an entire trilogy in one purchase, Fallout Radioactive makes for a worthwhile purchase.
