Vampire Night is the latest lightgun shoot-em-up for PS2. Developed by Wow the Sega team responsible for the House of the Dead series its a graphically enhanced port of the arcade version with a host of new features thrown in.
Cast as one of two vampire hunters, the player must blast through waves of blood-suckers, rescuing tormented villagers, completing special missions, whilst attempting to rescue a trapped girl.
The game features two main modes, Arcade and Special. Arcade mode is an improved version of the coin-op, with seven huge and increasingly frenetic stages - each concluding with a boss fight. In each stage the objective is to rescue a villager and thus be rewarded with better weapons and tools. Unique to the PS2, Special mode adds a slight RPG element. Throughout the stages, encounters with villagers present the player with additional objectives, such as searching for items or destroying specific enemies. Achieving these goals rewards the player with silver, which can be used to buy better weapons and magical powers. A training system is also featured, offering 17 courses across which to practice.
Vampire night is an atmospheric, fast-paced action shooter, which requires a bit of thought as well as super-sharp shooting.
