Men in Black II: Alien Escape - PS2

Discovering a space prison hulk that crashed into the Earth's ocean decades ago, agents J and K soon find that it carries the most dangerous alien gangs in the galaxy. Now hiding out on Earth, each one is a hardened criminal. There's only one possible course of action: hunt them down and bring them in, dead or alive.

Selecting between the quick-witted J and the confident veteran K, players choose their character, opting for the speed of the former or the experience and technologically superior weapons of the latter. Switching between characters enables players to experiment with various weapons and character strengths.

A host of new aliens from the upcoming movie sequel feature in the game, whilst popular creatures from the 1997 film, including the Worm Guys, make an appearance. Some aliens are allies and informants, most are hostile, stopping at nothing in their quest to take over the planet.

Players shoot their way through five distinct episodes, each with varying themes and settings, and with their own sub-levels and story scenes. Amongst the scenes featured in the game are a disreputable dockside, a decommissioned nuclear power plant, the streets of Manhattan and the alien prison ship VVS Maxim Securitus.

As you would expect, the film's stylish weaponry and equipment feature strongly in the game. Players get to test the XD9 Lazy Weasel spread shooter, which zaps any alien life form in range into a pile of extraterrestrial goo. The standard sidearm of agents J and K, however, is the classic J2 Blaster, a gun that strips particles from its barrel and hyper-accelerates them to dissolve unfortunate aliens. Each firearm employs a different type of technology, and the game features spread weapons, homing weapons, area effect weapons, beam weapons and charge weapons – weapons-a-go-go infact.

With more gadgetry than a host of Bond movies, and more sassy one-liners than a Groucho Marx marathon, MIB2: Alien Escape will zap you right between the eyes with its highly amusing gameplay.
