Summary

Virtua Cop was one of the first great arcade gun games and is still regarded by many as one of the best shooters ever. Back in 1995, the game appeared on the Sega Saturn, bringing with it an accompanying light gun and the gloriously simple premise of 'shoot all the baddies'. Now while this game mechanic was not greatly removed from the 'shoot the white dot on the screen' TV games of the 1980s, that wasn't to say that the game wasn't great fun. It has since spawned a wealth of similar Sega shooters, plenty of imitators, and has ultimately led to this third instalment on the PS2.

To be exact, Virtua Cop Elite is actually the first two Virtua Cop games, bundled together with a few extra features and, naturally, enhanced visuals. As far as gameplay is concerned, there really is not very much to say. Point the gun, shoot the bad guys. Both games are identical to the original games and benefit from the fact that they're both a lot easier on the eye.

As well as the main arcade games, there's also an Exercise Mode, which is basically a set of shooting gallery challenges, and a Vs. Mode, in which two players can battle it out for the highest score. Avid fans will be pleased to find out that the game also comes with an Extras section that features a gallery of artwork from the series.

Compatible with the highly respected Guncon 2, Virtua Cop Elite Edition is an ideal shooting game with its combination of classic gameplay and modern hardware.
