Summary

Exactly one year to the day since the original Game Boy Advance version of Doom wowed us all with its 3D-in-yer-pocket shooting action, we have a sequel. Developed by Australian outfit Torus Games, Doom II delivers more of the same claustrophobic, panic-ridden, ballistic mayhem, which closely follows the PC game from 1994.

As it happens, the Earth has been overrun by the entire forces of the netherworld. You are the lone survivor of a doomed mission, therefore bestowed with the task of cleaning the place up and putting things right. No mops or buckets here though, only an awesome array of deadly weapons to help you in your quest as you descend into the stygian depths of Hell itself and face the invading demon horde. Be warned, this is no tea and biscuits with the vicar.

As with the original PC version, over 30 levels feature throughout the game, each crammed full with an assortment of 17 unique and deadly enemies. All that stands between you and the salivating teeth of the sanguinary miscreants is an assortment of nine different weapons. Don't despair, however, because included in this inventory we have some serious offensive jurisdiction, including the legendary chainsaw, double-barrelled shotgun, and the BFG (it's big, it's a gun, but it certainly isn't friendly!).

What is certainly a welcome addition to the game is its co-operative mode. As well as offering the usual link-up, multiplayer deathmatches, Doom II also allows you to team up with your mates to rid the world of the evil hordes, which is definitely something we should be seeing more of on the GBA.
