Summary

Urban Freestyle Soccer (UFS) offers all the fast-paced excitement of one of the world's most popular sports, without the interference of referees, their assistants, and the rules that hinder the freestyle nature of this game of the street. UFS is free-kicking, free-punching and free-for-all gameplay, encouraging outrageous skills and trickery in pursuit of the ultimate goal. UFS takes the player back to the basics of street soccer and places him/her in environments created from concrete and clay rather than lush green grass. It's all about pride and skill, and taking your game to the opposing team's neighbourhood to put them in their place. Use your imagination and your abilities to take the other team's turf - you really don't need to start a war. The real weapons are your football skills and the ability to mix them with some downright dirty play. Why tackle an opponent when you can barge or punch him off the ball?

Almost anything goes in UFS, and the moves you can execute accentuate this. The more skilful you become in control of the ball, the better your overall performance. Truly, some of the combination moves you can perform after a little time practicing are like nothing you'll see in other soccer games.

There are a handful of game modes in UFS, including Turf Wars, Home Turf, Versus, Freestyle and Street Challenge. The objective in Turf Wars is to gain control of each one of the 10 soccer territories by beating the opposition in their own back yard. Versus mode offers between one and four players the opportunity for a quick match. Freestyle lets you show off your full range of skills without the pressure of scoring goals, although they do contribute to your total points: the objective here is to get the biggest skill score by performing some of your meanest moves. Street Challenge is a mode available to the seasoned UFS player. On completion of the Home Turf section, you'll be able to access this game mode of 18 gruelling games, home and away. Street Challenge assumes the form of a regular league structure, and the way to get to the top is to win as many games as possible to accrue the most points.

Urban Freestyle Soccer is a refreshing change from the majority of association football games out there. Along with Sega Soccer Slam, UFS powers up the genre in a distinct fashion, no messing.
