Summary

Another movie-turned-video game, Empire's offering of Bad Boys II sees players take control of their favourite narcotics detectives Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett in a brand new third-person shooter of cinematic proportions for PC.

This time around, Mike and Marcus have been assigned to a hi-tech task force investigating the flow of designer ecstasy into Miami. Their inquiries inadvertently lead them to a major conspiracy involving a notorious kingpin, whose ambitions to take over the drug trade have ignited a bloody turf war.

And so the adventure begins. Not the subtlest of cops, Mike and Marcus at the very least ensure this isn't going to be a quiet, intellectual game a la X-Files. On the contrary, as you take control of these unorthodox law enforcers, you'll find yourself armed to the teeth as you eliminate myriad drug dealers and henchmen before destroying a few cars and even a helicopter. It's very much like the film, and works very well as an arcade experience.

Bad Boys II takes place across some 15 fast-paced levels that play host to multiple mission objectives and frenetic good-cop gameplay. Environments are typical to this style of game, and have players blazing through office buildings, factories and warehouses without a care in the world for their own safety.

It's a good-looking game that is sure to appeal to the most casual of gamers on first glance. But underneath the mainstream marketing and movie licenses lies a good game from Empire.
