Summary
Developed by the chaps that brought us the smashing Giants: Citizen Kabuto, comes this latest adventure from LucasArts. Following on in similar style to the former, Armed and Dangerous is a third-person, mission-based shoot-em-up that delivers plenty of explosive combat, without taking itself at all seriously.
Apparently based on a true story (?) the game sees players take on the role of Roman, a cockney criminal mastermind and leader of a gang of accidental heroes known as the Lionhearts, which comprises Jonesy, a pyromaniac Scottish mole, and Q1-11, a well-spoken and quite debonair robot with a penchant for tea. Armed to the teeth with an arsenal of (sometimes ridiculously) over-the-top weaponry, these three unlikely heroes embark on a quest to pull of the ultimate heist and soon end up unwittingly drawn into a rebellion against a tyrant king.
The game is comprised of 21 action-packed missions, set across five diverse environments that include the likes of icy/snowy regions, mountains, woods, and cliffs. In each case there are a number of objectives to complete - tasks that can generally only be achieved by wiping out the hordes of weird and wonderful enemies in an explosion of destructive mayhem. Helping you out on that front is the aforementioned dynamic duo, Jonesy and Q1-11, who back you up throughout the action and can also obey a number of your commands.
As you would expect from such a game, the weapons play a large part throughout the proceedings. With guns ranging from the obvious, through the exaggerated, to the downright silly (but darn funny, nonetheless) Armed and Dangerous certainly lives up to its name, having you unleashing a massive array of ballistic extravagance upon your adversaries, including the regulars such as rifles, machine guns, snipers, and rocket launchers, as well as the less obvious Guy Fawkes Traitor Bomb, Shark Gun, and World's Smallest Black Hole.
All in all, this is an extremely fun game. As well as being a well made and entertaining shooter, it's also genuinely funny throughout, which is something the gaming world is strongly lacking.
