Summary
The latest cross-platform offering from the chaps at THQ takes the now-popular form of what can only be described as 'multi-genre' adventure. As such, Sphinx fuses elements of action, adventure, platform and combat, and delivers a compelling storyline set within an expansive, explorable game world. And we wouldn't settle for anything less these days, now would we?
The adventure takes place amidst an Egypt-inspired, fictional universe, in which players embark on an epic quest to foil the evil plans of a nasty fellow called Set. You take control of the eponymous Sphinx or his comic sidekick, the Mummy, as you explore an assortment of new worlds, uncover dark secrets and interact with a large cast of diverse characters. Travelling around with the aid of magic portals, the task at hand is to uncover the stolen mystical crowns of Egypt, but it's certainly not going to be easy, and will require a great deal of wits and agility, as well as the use of a range of special abilities.
There are five huge worlds to discover, populated by a whopping 150 or so different characters. As you explore each of the environments, you acquire various different special abilities (of which there are more than 15 in total) that more often than not are required in order to progress, solve certain puzzles, or interact with your surroundings. As well as these abilities, you also get to rely on a multitude of cool weaponry, including the likes of a magic blade, capture beetles, possession spells, and a range of different darts.
And the action doesn't stop there either, as there are also a number of different mini games to uncover on your travels, which add a bit more life to what is ultimately a fun and involving adventure.
