Summary

Though they didn’t perhaps realise it at first, when Electronic Arts released the first Sims game it was the birth of a world-beating IP. A slew of expansion packs consolidated the game’s position as the biggest selling computer game of all time, and people who didn’t even consider themselves gamers were soon looking after their Sims, making friends with other Sims, and building and decorating their houses – it became the dolls’ house for the new millennium.

The Sims Online took the series one logical step further, with players building houses in online communities rather than existing merely on one PC. The game was more hardware hungry than previous versions but it still sold well. But it was still a PC game. Last year saw EA adapting their franchise for success on home and handheld games consoles, the result being The URBZ: Sims in the City.

And now, a new expansion pack for the Sims 2 comes out: The Sims 2: University. You’re all grown up now and it’s time to move out and go to university. So you’ll find plenty of new uni-related features to adapt your Sim’s lifestyle to, as they frequent trendy cafes, lounges and gyms. New lifetime goals must be unlocked if they are to make the most of their time at university.

Featuring a new age-group of Sims, you’ll have to try and gain popularity and influence amongst your friends, classmates and faculty. Living in a new College Town, you can choose from 11 degrees and must try to keep your grades at an acceptable standard. The other side of university life will involve japes, joining bands and secret societies, crashing parties or just getting a part-time job. 100 new items are featured in game, including a drum kit, pool table and camera that allows you to take pictures and put them on the wall. More fun for Sims fans!
