A sort of cross between Pokemon and Gran Turismo, ChoroQ is a cunningly conceived game. It features cars licensed by their manufacturers, but all rendered in the cutesy, super-deformed style. The game is in fact based on the diminuitive radio control race cars that are popular in Japan but not, bizarrely, over here. Developed by Japanese company Takara, its a refreshing riot of colourful environments and cars and simple but addictive gameplay.
Over 200 body styles can be chosen from, and cars can be tuned with a massive selection of performance parts. There are 100 tracks based on both real-world and fantasy locations, and players can enter challenges and special events. The simple gameplay features masses of mini-games and secrets to discover as you roam round three towns in what some have called a carPG. Younger racing fans are sure to love this, and it may find some older fans who think that some tuning games take themselves just a little bit too seriously.
