Summary

Published by Koch offshoot Deep Silver, here’s another offering for PC owners hungry for their next FPS hit: Chrome Specforce. You may remember the game’s predecessor, Chrome, an FPS in which you played as Bolt Logan, an interplanetary mercenary in the not-too-distant future. Developer Techland is back, and in Chrome Specforce you play a member of an elite strike force detachment of the Federal Expeditionary Corps. Your job is to protect the interests of the Federation throughout the planetary system. This means that your duties run to a whole range of shooting-related larks, from assassination and sabotage to espionage and infiltration.

As a Specforce field agent, you’ll be equipped from head to toe in a bio suit very similar to those seen in certain other futuristic shooting games, known in this instance as SPA4 Power Armour. You can operate either alone or as part of the the Specforce team, blasting your way through the levels with a range of 13 weapons, which of course include new takes on old favourites like the rocket launcher and sniper rifle. As is becoming de rigeur in FPS games these days, there’s some pretty sophisticated AI at work, and your enemies will change their tactics depending on your strategies, so you’ll have to think quickly and strike fast. If that’s still not crafty enough for you, you can take on up to 31 other real life humans online or over LAN, through a variety of maps and in four modes.

And the game looks great, too, with landscapes featuring arid deserts and shady forests, studded with fortresses and populated with huge mech-style robots. Techland, with your futuristic space shooter you are spoiling us!
