Summary

Few role-playing games make it over to British shores, since they are not deemed to be popular in old Blighty. In 1997, Squaresoft broke the mould with its hugely popular Final Fantasy series. Ever since then, there has been a sharp increase in RPG games sold in our wonderful kingdom. When Konami first released Suikoden for the PSone back in 1997, it sold enough copies to warrant a sequel and has never looked back. Now, nearly a decade later, Konami is releasing the fifth instalment of the series. Suikoden V takes players to continents within the game world that have never been seen before, on a quest to find a magical rune needed to restore order in the troubled world.

Suikoden V is set in the Queendom of Falena at time of great civil unrest. Gamers assume the role of the Prince of Falena and must travel the land in search of a mythical Sun Rune. To help the Prince succeed on his quest, gamers must travel across lush 3D environments and recruit suitable characters they meet on the way. You must cherry-pick allies that have unique skills from a cast list that allows for up to 108 followers. These followers are known as the 108 Stars of Destiny, of which 60 are playable characters and can be equipped with unique items. Gamers are able to take up to six characters into battle simultaneously, which in theory allows for millions of party combinations.

New additions to Suikoden V include mini-games that can be used to gain essential funds that will help the Prince on his journey. The new Tactical Formation System enables more than 20 strategic formations. Strategic map battles in Suikoden V involve hundreds of troops that help create huge army battles like never seen before in the series. The new Home Base system lets players gather together their many allies to combine individual attributes and enlarge their homeland.
