Summary

The Ship originally began life as a Half-Life Mod and has now being crafted as a cracking single and multiplayer PC game in its own right by Edinburgh-based dev studio Outerlight.

The game is a refreshingly unique-looking murder/mystery/hunt game for the PC. The background story is that you play as one of many 'lucky' recipients of a free ticket for the ship, but once you arrive on board, you soon realise there’s a ‘bit of a catch'.

The game is set on a series of luxury, art deco cruise ships built by a mysterious ‘Mr X’. The basic premise behind The Ship is simple - kill or be killed. The rules of the hunt are simple: each player is given the name of one of the other contestants on board, and you must hunt them down and kill them with any weapon you can find. You have to constantly watch your back though, because as well as having someone to hunt, you have another player hunting you, so keep looking over your shoulder if you want to stay alive!

The gameplay is an innovative blend of traditional first and third-person gameplay with a Sims-style day-to-day needs system – covering food, sleep, social interaction and so on.

On the Poop Deck, The Ship proudly boasts a number of modes of gameplay including Arcade Mode offline and Hunt, Elimination, Deathmatch and Duel, all online, catering for up to 32 players on some of the bigger maps.

To succeed in the hunt, you are going to need to know your way around all of the liners in the fleet. Each ship has its own secrets, including hidden rooms, passages and tunnels, extra weapons in special locations, environmental traps and triggers and 'extra special' ways of murdering.

You’ll need to learn how to use various weapons and objects to assist you in the hunt as you bludgeon, stab, shoot, poison and set traps to hunt down your prey in this intriguing Agatha Christie-esque caper.
