Summary

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike is the third entry in the SOCOM series to appear on the PSP after the two Fireteam Bravo games. Tactical Strike puts you in charge of a four-man team of special forces soldiers and gives you the challenge of rescuing the US ambassador to Panama from a group of insurgents that are hostile to the government of that Central American country. In a change to the earlier SOCOM games, and despite the title of this one, you aren't limited to teams of U.S. Navy Seals. You can choose to command one of nine international teams, each one with its own weapons and equipment.

Another change from earlier games in the series is the way you play the game. You are more of a tactical commander than a grunt on the ground in this game. You will order your team to your objective and nominate targets for them to take out, breaking it into two-man elements or even commanding individual members if required, but you won't be taking direct control of your men. This makes the game more about planning your approach and deciding from where to attack rather than running in with all guns blazing. You can even queue up commands and have them take effect on the squad members in parallel in order to perform some pretty impressive manoeuvres.

Multiplayer is available via both Ad-hoc and Infrastructure modes for up to four players and fully supports headsets for that authentic SOCOM order-shouting experience. There are five game types in multiplayer mode, from your standard deathmatch modes to more the inventive Demolition and Collateral Damage games. With a large range of weaponry and the multiple soldier teams with which to complete the game, Tactical Strike should see fans of the series and tactical action games alike spending a lot of time on their PSPs.
