Summary

With a story penned by author Greg Rucka, the man responsible for the Queen and Country series of novels and graphic novels, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow picks up after the events of Dark Mirror with Gabe Logan being sent on a mission to retrieve another piece of world-threatening military technology. When the mission goes bad, Logan is faced with his agency being shut down from Washington, and his long-time partner, Lian Xing, is accused of being a double agent. Logan takes things into his own hands and sets out to resolve matters in a quest that will take him around the world and to the bottom of the ocean.

Logan's Shadow takes the game mechanics that made Dark Mirror a critical success and expands upon them. The addition of moves such as blind fire, human shield and contextual kills make the combat mechanic more open and involving. Gabe now also has the ability to swim and fight on the surface and underwater, either with a re-breather for extended submersion or just by holding his breath. Even the ability to command NPCs has been given a working over with Gabe now able to specify targets for other characters to attack, even directing vehicles such as tanks where they are available to him.

Multiplayer games have also had a bit of an overhaul. Either Ad-hoc or Infrastructure wi-fi modes can be used to join games supporting up to eight players at once with teams competing against each other in seven locations and in five game modes, including the new Retrieval and Sabotage modes. The teams will be assembled based on a ranking system to avoid a team of experienced player overwhelming a team of relative newcomers to the game. Multiplayer mode also allows for some community aspects with players being encouraged to vote on maps to give feedback to the developers on which maps are best for which game modes.
