Summary

Championship Manager 2008 (CM2008) from developer Beautiful Game hits the shelves a mere seven days after what's regarded as the benchmark for football management games - Sega's Football Manager 2008 - went on sale and stormed to the top of the sales charts. However, for those who prefer to 'manage lite' rather than get too immersed in the virtual football management life, CM2008 might just be the answer. This isn't just an update to last year's excursion with '2008' emblazoned on the pack, as there are plenty of new features to make CM2008 stand out.

CM2008 has a totally new look thanks to the new skins, menu shortcuts and user interface, meaning this is the most accessible management sim in this particular series. CM2008 also features an improved match engine with the realism cranked to the max, as the game analyses each player and has them react in game as they would in real life. For example, a winger that likes to drift infield and take players on will do so more than staying out wide and getting chalk on his soles before crossing the ball. Managers can train individual players to incorporate tendencies and good habits into their game.

The match engine is fully three dimensional so you can see all your plans unfold as your team plays a cautious game or goes forth with all guns blazing, or somewhere in between. ProZone makes a reappearance too, allowing for that all-important post-match analysis so beloved of punters and fans alike. ProZone lets you see where your tactics are succeeding and failing, and points the way to improvement.
