Summary

THQ wades into the rhythm/battle genre with an original Wii title going by the name of Battle of the Bands.

Expect an intriguing mix of action and rhythm-based game mechanics that mixes up frantic combat using customisable bands in the battle (the clue's in the title) for musical domination. The game will feature five musical styles: rock, funk/hip-hop, country, marching band and Latin, all controlled using the Wii Remote.

Two bands will be playing at any given time, each playing in a different style. Which band is performing better dictates which version of the song you'll actually hear, meaning you could find yourself faced with a song that slips between rock and marching band styles. As well as just playing better than your opponents, you can attack them. Land enough attacks and the music will switch back to your style of play. Sniper violin, anyone? Maybe a flamethrower guitar?

The game will offer 30 tracks from the last 40 years, each recorded in the five featured musical styles.

They include:

  • The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop

  • The Commodores - Brick House

  • KC and the Sunshine Band - That's the Way (I Like It)

  • Texas Tornados - Adios Mexico

  • Black Eyed Peas - Dum Diddly

  • Cypress Hill - Insane in the Brain

  • Kool & the Gang - Jungle Boogie

  • The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another

  • Soundgarden - Spoonman

  • Def Leppard - Photograph

  • Ram Jam- Black Betty

  • Korn - Coming Undone

  • Electric Six - Danger! High Voltage

  • Keane - Is It Any Wonder?
