Summary
So who does want to be a Millionaire? It’s hard to comprehend the success that the television show and the videogame has achieved on a global basis. The original game smashed sales records becoming reaching a million sales in the fastest time ever in the UK, and quickly became a family favourite. Many people enjoy playing along with show shouting answers at the TV and sharing the tension. This game allows you to take the hot seat personally and win a virtual million.
The format of the show involves players answering questions correctly to win an increasingly large amount of cash. Starting at £100, the early questions seem laughably simple, but things soon turn around and the questions posed become increasingly more difficulty as the show progresses towards that millionaire status. Contestants have three life-lines available with them to help with the answers they mightn’t know: Ask the Audience, 50-50, and Phone-A-Friend. Players "watch" the show through the DS's top screen while the bottom screen shows the question and answers, with the path to a million just a stylus tap away.
The 2nd edition offers a staggering 2,000 questions delivered by a virtual Chris Tarrant, host of the TV show. Virtual Tarrant asks the questions, gives the answers, and offers comments to the player. With so many questions available, this latest DS version now offers Practice Mode, where you quickly test your knowledge without climbing the millionaire ladder.
With the Personalised Play feature, players start by providing their name, age, gender and even their favoured subjects, such as entertainment, sport and general knowledge. This twist means players get the most entertainment with sets of questions tuned to their liking, including a set of easy questions for children.
