Summary

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is the first game out of 38 Studios, the brain child of former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. It's a single-player action role-playing game.

As well as Schilling's input, the game also sees former lead designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Ken Rolston, as its executive designer, with a little help from comics legend Todd MacFarlane.

Featuring five environments in a richly developed and graphically deep game-world, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has four playable races: Almain (noble Humans) the Ljosalfar (Light Elves), the Dokkalfar (Dark Elves), and the Varani (nomadic Humans). Each includes three classes (Might, Finesse, and Sorcery). Each playable character class comes with 22 abilities to choose from.

In terms of game mechanics, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning uses its own class system. This is called the “Destiny" system, in which the gamer makes use of a skill-tree system to unlock a variety of "destinies".

The combat system is a straightforward but real-time action/RPG button press + timing system. There are also quick time events (QTEs) used throughout the game.

This might just be the start of something epic...
