Summary
Combat is all well and good for the gamer who likes to thump, not think, but Crusader Kings II brings a mix of strategy and combat to the scenario. That scenario is Europe, in turmoil.
Beginning in the year 1066, when the countries of Europe are split into fighting fiefdoms, the Pope has declared that all those of travel to the Holy Land to fight for Christianity will be freed of their sins. With land owners and knights away cleansing their sins in battle, it is the player’s chance, however, to increase their lands and fill their coffers; employ vassals, and introduce laws that will see them as the top dog in medieval Europe.
The game allows the player to experience some 400 years of European history as they play the part of a Christian noble as and rise up the ranks from Count to Emperor. There is plenty to see and do in this time frame as the player can empower and glorify their dynasty, expand their feudal domain all at the expense of their rivals. These even include the Pope himself as well as the Muslim nations during the Crusades and the Mongols during their period of imperial expansion.
Gamers can carry out these feats of political, historical and tactical deviousness and brutality by themselves or online with up to 32 other players in a competitive multiplayer mode.
